Does anyone else find it super awkward when new ESPN announcer Terry Francona makes a half A joke about the Red Sox collapse last season. And super annoying when he talks about himself and HIS transition from the dugout to the booth. Terry – WE DON’T CARE!! Between his appearances on Baseball Tonight and last nights “Opening Night” (Japan never happened people!!), I’ve heard him make numerous awkward jokes about the Red Sox collapse last year. Take last night for example when Bud Selig was being interviewed in the press box during the Fish/Cards game.

Dan Shulman: And Bud you guys made a big decision to add another wild card to the mix this year
Bud: Yeah, it was a big decision, but the owners came together and we all felt that this was the right thing to do. I went back and forth between a 3 game playoff and a 1 game playoff, but it seems like everyone was in favor of a 1 game playoff.
Francona (from nowhere): Where was that 1 game playoff last year Bud?
The entire booth: (awkward laughter followed by awkward silence, followed by a change of subject)
A few quick points Terry:
1. Nobody was talking to you
2. You made everyone supper uncomfortable
3. Your Red Sox team that YOU were in charge of absolutely crapped the bed last year and YOU were in charge of one of the biggest collapses of all time. Why can’t you see that this is not joke worthy?
As my wife likes to point out when I bring up something touchy before she’s had enough time to process and work through it (Like me losing my wedding ring at the beach the other day)- “Too soon!” she’ll yell at me. That gives me the heads up that I probably need to put that topic on the shelf for a little while. Somebody needs to put a megaphone into Terry’s ear every time he makes an awkward Red Sox comment and yell, “TOO SOON!”. The whole Red Sox titanic catastrophe wasn’t that long ago.
